For the first time in a half-century, the City of Los Angeles is undertaking a comprehensive update to its guiding vision, the General Plan. This initiative, OurLA2040, will result in a new 20-year citywide plan , putting into place strong and visionary policies to help create a more prosperous, livable, and sustainable Los Angeles.
OurLA2040, led by the Department of City Planning, began in 2016-17 with its initial research and analysis, laying the groundwork for a more extensive community engagement process which began this fall. OurLA2040 aims to chart the course for how our city will grow and change over time and will cover topics such as land use and economic development, water and energy conservation, parks and open space, air quality, historic preservation, public facilities and community assets.
The first phase of this series takes place in the month of October, focusing on the topics of Open Space and Community + Culture. The Department of City Planning has held community conversations around the City to gather input from people about urban heat island effect, shading, opportunities for creating open space, and other concerns.
