"Saluting Our Firefighting Heroes – Breakfast with the Brave." We hope you will stand with us in recognizing and celebrating the bravery of our firefighting heroes. Saturday, August 22, 2026 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM LAFD Fire Station 39 14615 Oxnard Street Van Nuys, CA 91411 Why This Matters: In 2025 alone, Los Angeles firefighters responded to nearly 200,000 emergency incidents, protecting lives, homes, businesses, and vital infrastructure across our region. Last year’s inaugural event welcomed over 700 attendees and 55 sponsors, including Congressman Sherman, Assemblywoman Schiavo, Mayor Bass, LA City Council members: Padilla, Rodriguez, Nazarian, Raman, LAUSD School Board President Scott Schmerelson, San Fernando Mayor Mendoza, neighborhood councils, and other community leaders. We want to build on this excitement to create a lasting tradition that celebrates gratitude, preparedness, and resilience. Celebrate DOGust By Adopting or Fostering a Pet With LA Animal Services! August is National Dog Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a pawty all month long! Celebrate DOGust by adopting or fostering a pet from LA Animal Services! Pets adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and for LA City residents, licensed. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success, and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. In addition, dogs are eligible for free dog training classes with Paws for Life K9 Rescue at their People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. If you have the time and can allocate some space in your home for animals in our care, LA Animal Services needs the community's help fostering pets. Visit any LA Animal Services Centers in person during operating hours to sign up and begin fostering right away. Fostering even for four days allows our shelter pets a much needed break from kennel life, and creates life saving space for the lost, sick, frightened, and abandoned animals who make their way into our Centers. The central premise—"Adopt one, help many"—highlights a powerful ripple effect: when a person adopts or fosters a pet, they instantly free up critical space and resources in the shelter system, allowing the organization to rescue another animal in need.
