In 2021 your NoHo West Neighborhood Council has been focused on supporting the community through beautification, Neighborhood Purpose Grants, and community outreach. Despite the pandemic and meeting virtually, we’ve been able to achieve much this year!
The Whitsett Slope and mural (located just north of Whitsett and Raymer streets) is an ongoing beautification project. This year our efforts have been focused on the planting and maintenance of the slope on both the north and south side of the rail overpass. Our goal is to cover these areas with drought resistant plants and shrubs for a consistently beautiful landscape.
Throughout Los Angeles, you may have noticed beautiful artwork adorning utility boxes. We’re happy to share that in 2022, more of these ugly utility boxes in our community will be covered with artwork painted by Paul Juno. In the new year, our NC will review design concepts that reflect the qualities and personality of our community.
Another key function of neighborhood councils is the awarding of Neighborhood Purpose Grants, which are a way for us to partner with and support non-profit organizations and public schools on projects that provide a public benefit to the community. This year, we provided funding to address homelessness, youth leadership development, and care for stray animals:
- Whitsett West Tiny Home Village: $3,000
- East Valley YMCA Youth in Government Program: $2,000
- Perry’s Place/Heaven on Earth: $4,500
After a year of no events due to the pandemic, it has been exciting to meet many of you again in person (safely) at our community events, including: complimentary paper shredding, Halloween at Valley Plaza Recreation Center, and the recent Winter Wonderland at Whitsett Sports Field.
Additionally, the neighborhood council actively partners with City Councilmember Paul Krekorian’s office and city agencies on issues of importance to our community, including homelessness, public area clean ups, cannabis and alcohol permitting, and much more.

If you’re interested in getting more involved, we are always looking for volunteers to support our community. The NoHo West Neighborhood Council committees are open to all stakeholders. We also currently have three open seats on the neighborhood council board: Resident, At Large, and Youth/Senior. Please review our bylaws to determine eligibility and reach out if you’re interested.
