9 People holding shovels at a groundbreaking

May 27, 2026 – Breaking ground for new BRT (L to R): Metro executive Jennifer Vides, former L.A. Council President Paul Krekorian, Pasadena City College Trustee Alton Wang, Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian, Metro Chair Ara Najarian, Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins and County Supervisor Kathryn Barger break ground for new BRT.

This week, we broke ground for Metro’s long-awaited Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which will connect North Hollywood to Pasadena with faster, more reliable bus service. Zero-emission electric buses will operate in dedicated lanes, improving travel times while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and connecting this route to our entire regional transit network, including the Metro A, B and G lines.

Connecting the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys benefits our entire region. People can get to jobs they couldn’t reach before and students can get to college campuses more easily, while families spend less time commuting and more time together. Small businesses all along the route will see increased foot traffic. This is a project that will serve our region for generations to come.

The line will include 22 enhanced stations with shaded canopies, seating, lighting, and real-time arrival information. Two of these stations will be in North Hollywood, at the main Metro station and at Vineland Ave. and Hesby Street. The route is expected to carry 30,000 riders daily and will cut current public transportation times by more than half. This project is funded by California Senate Bill 1 and Measure M, approved by L.A. County voters.
