The City of Los Angeles’ anonymous Gun Buyback is an initiative led by GRYD in partnership with the LAPD. Launched in the spring of 2009, the Gun Buyback marks the beginning of the City of Los Angeles summer violence reduction strategy. The GRYD office aligned its outreach efforts on the Gun Buyback initiative to specifically focus its outreach to areas within the City that have the highest propensity for violence.
How It Works
On Saturday, May 13, 2017, there are two Gun Buyback locations located within the City. In exchange for surrendering a firearm, an individual receive a gift card.
8am-1pm: Participants drive through the collection line, firearms are inspected and classified Participants then completed a survey and received a gift card upon departure.
The amount per firearm is up to $100 for all handguns, rifles, and shotguns surrendered and up to $200 for assault weapons as classified by the State of California.
