NoHoWest and North Hollywood North East Neighborhood Council were honored at City Hall on November 20, 2015 for our collaboration on the Whitsett Avenue slope at 12544 Saticoy Street. We started with a weed covered slope below the Department of Transportation and worked together along with the Council Office to clear the slope, plant drought resistant plants and paint the 250 foot mural.
Both of these two Neighborhood Councils are the winners of respect in our communities for their volunteerism, initiative, persistence, and accomplishment in the work on the Whitsett Avenue slope.
The Vintage North Hollywood Mural celebrates the former acres of orange groves and businesses that were in North Hollywood and can be seen from the Hollywood Freeway. The gray building in the above it is the DOT, unit for Parking Enforcement which has an entrance on Saticoy South Street.
The mural shows one of the customized cars of Nuta Kotlyarenko known as Nudie, the Tailor to the Stars. The censored image of his last car, 1975 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, was actually highly decorated with guns, rifles, gold coins, and the cattle horns over the front fender. Photos of Nudie’s customized car can be found online.
City Council President Herb Wesson and NoHoWest President Radomir Luza.
Thank you to NHNENC Board Member Sarah Ramsawack for her reporting on this event.
