This summer, with funding secured by Councilmember Paul Krekorian, the City completed groundwater projects in Council District 2 that address two of the most critical environmental issues of our region: water capacity and quality.
The Victory-Goodland Green Street Project and and the Ben and Victory Stormwater Capture Project will capture up to 176 acre-feet of stormwater runoff per year — equivalent to the amount of water used by 300 homes. The projects will remove bacteria, trash and pollutants that would otherwise reach the Los Angeles River and the ocean, and they will increase groundwater recharge in the San Fernando Groundwater Basin.
At a time when we face the prospects of extended and crippling drought along with the ever-present threat of water pollution, these projects are more vital than ever. Drought-tolerant landscaping of the project sites is a welcome side benefit of the projects, enhancing the visual appeal of the community.
