NORTH HOLLYWOOD – This week, the City Council approved final funding for the 85-bed bridge housing project on Raymer Street in North Hollywood. The final appropriation means that this vitally important shelter is on track for its projected June opening.
The Raymer shelter will house 85 individuals who are currently unhoused. There will be separate sections for men and women, and meals and social services will be provided by the operator, Hope of the Valley. This will be one of the first “A Bridge Home” shelters in the San Fernando Valley, and thanks to careful site selection and construction efficiency, it will be the least expensive in the entire city.
The anticipated opening of the Raymer facility comes at a time when people experiencing homelessness are feeling particularly exposed and vulnerable. It will offer safety, shelter, the opportunity for a fresh start, and most important, hope to people who have none.
